Team Cook Did It!
Our dreams of making the Beijing Olympic Team have been fulfilled!
Shalane started off our good fortune with an impressive win in the 10k on the first day of competition. She followed that up with a top three finish in the 5k.
Erin and I placed one and two in the 1500m race on the final day of competition. She surprised me with a big, come from behind bear hug at the finish line. It was so awesome to be able to share that very special moment with my teammate.
Immediately after my race, the meet organizers posted headshots of the three members of the Olympic team on their jumbotron screen. Little did I know that the headshot that was supposed to be me, was actually my old teammate from Duke, Clara Horowitz. Jan Cohen, a woman my mom met sitting in the bleachers during my race, captured the shot and gave me permission to include it on my blog. I thought it was only appropriate to share this Olympic moment with Clara!
I'm excited and proud to be able to represent my country at what is arguably the biggest sporting event in the world. My family, friends and I are all still floating on cloud nine!
There is lots of work to do in preparation for the big show and I promise to devote myself completely to my training so that I can give it my all in China.
Beijing...here we come!
